Sam Coleman

Sam Coleman

Sam joined the firm in 1995 and has been on owner/officer since 1996. He has served as the Vice President and currently serves as the President of the firm.

Education

Sam completed a B.A. in Psychology in 1991 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his J.D. at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1994.

Katie Merritt

Katherine Merritt

Katie joined the firm in 2007 and became an owner/officer in the fall of 2011. She currently serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the firm.

Education

B.A. Social Science and Spanish, Gardner-Webb University 2004. J.D., Campbell School of Law 2008.

Professional

Member of the Orange County, 15B Judicial District (President from 2012-2013) and North Carolina State Bar Associations. Current Board of Directors member for Pathways to Change and the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce (Secretary from 2015-Present).


Alonzo Coleman

Alonzo B. Coleman, Jr.

Alonzo was one of the founding partners of the firm and has been an active member of the firm for nearly 40 years. Although Alonzo was appointed to the District Court Bench in 1996, he has rejoined the firm following State-mandated retirement and now brings his considerable legal experience to bear on our civil and criminal cases.

Alonzo also has a love for the Spanish language and has dedicated fourteen years to studying and developing fluency.

B.S. Engineering, Evansville College 1961; J.D. University of North Carolina School of Law 1965.

Member of the Orange County, 15B Judicial District and North Carolina State Bar Associations. Former District Court Judge. Former State Senator. Former North Carolina Bar Counselor. Member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (Former Board Member under Academy of Trial Lawyers). Licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals, 4th Circuit, and the United States District Court, Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina.


James Rainsford

James Rainsford

James joined the firm in 2012 but has been in practice since 2006. James became a partner/officer in early 2014. He is licensed to practice in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Education

James earned a B.A. in English in 2002 from the College of Charleston. He earned his J.D. at the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2005.

Jason Murphy

Jason Murphy

Jason joined the firm in 2016 but has been practicing law since 2009.  Jason focuses primarily in family law, but also has years of experience in criminal law.

Education

Jason graduated Magna Cum Laude from Campbell University in 2006 earning a B.S. in Pre-Law Government.  He graduated with High Honors from the University of North Carolina with his J.D. in 2009.

Secondary attorney for  the Orange County Child Support Enforcement Agency, Board member of the Orange County Bar Association, Member of the Orange County 15B Judicial District and the North Carolina Bar Association.


Cyrus Griswold

Cyrus Griswold

Cyrus joined the firm as a law clerk in 2012 and became an associate in 2015.

Education

Cyrus earned his B.S. in Philosophy and German in 2001 from Georgetown University. He earned his J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2014.
